Why you'll love this recipe
This Spiked Apple Pie is made with Everclear (151 proof) and Captain Morgan- both of which are fairly easy to find. This recipe is super easy and doesn't involve any complicated steps.
Apple Pie is a party in a jar and is perfect for any and all occasions. Camping, bonfires, family gatherings-- just don't bring it to that potluck at work. 😉
Make sure you let this concoction chill for at least one week before enjoying it. It needs time to mellow out because, whew, is it strong right out of the pot! Once it mellows out, it goes down so smoothly. It's as dangerous as it is delicious!
This recipe fills 5 64-ounce mason jars or makes about 2 ½ gallons.
WARNING
This recipe does contain alcohol. Excessive consumption of alcohol may cause harm to your health. Please drink responsibly!
Ingredients
This adult apple pie recipe contains only 6 simple ingredients:
- Everclear
- Spiced rum
- Apple cider
- Honey
- Brown sugar
- Cinnamon sticks
Step-by-step instructions
Combine all ingredients, except for the Everclear and spiced rum, in a large stockpot. I used a 16-quart stockpot and it all fit perfectly with plenty of room to spare.
Bring it to a boil, cover, and reduce heat. Let it simmer for one hour. Let's not forget how good this will make your house smell! Apple cinnamon is especially of my favorite fall-time scents.
Let the mixture cool and add alcohol when the temperature is well below 172 degrees Fahrenheit. If the alcohol is added too early, it can run the risk of evaporating the alcohol and ruining it.
Caramel Apple Pie Shots
This recipe can be transformed into one of the most delicious shots of all time. Just when you think Apple Pie can't get any better-- this happens.
Simply fill a shot glass with Spiked Apple Pie, top with whipped topping, and drizzle with caramel! YUM!
Shelf life
If the jars are sealed properly, Apple Pie can last up to three years. If it's stored in an airtight container in your refrigerator, it should last three to four months.
Tips & tricks
Let it cool. Before adding in the alcohol, let the apple cider mixture cool down to at least 172 degrees F.
151 vs. 190 proof. Many recipes I've seen call for 190 proof Everclear. I'm not able to find it locally (and I'm not about to drive all over hell and back), so I stick with 151 proof and it turns out perfect. If you can find 190 proof Everclear, use it!
Let it rest. This apple pie is super strong right out of the pot. It's best to let it sit and mellow out for at least a week before enjoying- it'll taste much better!
Recommended tools
- 16-quart Stock Pot. It's amazing how much stuff I can actually fit into this thing! I also use this stockpot for Big Batch Hearty Beef Chili and Birria Tacos.
- Food Thermometer. Make sure the apple cider mixture is cooled enough with this easy-to-read thermometer.
Storage
According to the internet, there are several ways to store Apple Pie. I personally prefer to store it in mason jars in the refrigerator. My refrigerator is always jam-packed full of food so that's why I recommend sharing this drink with family and friends!
