Ingredients
To make this mouth-watering salty pork dish, you'll need just three ingredients. Here's what you'll need:
- Kalua pork. Make this delicious luau pork right at home in your slow cooker, using our 3-ingredient recipe!
- Kalua pork drippings. Adds a rich, smoky flavor to this dish. You can also sub in chicken broth or beef broth.
- Cabbage. This recipe uses a head of regular green cabbage. Choose a cabbage that is firm with crisp outer leaves.
Step-by-step instructions
Heat your dutch oven over medium-high heat.
Add the chopped cabbage to the pot and top it with the Kalua Pig and pork drippings. Cover the pot and cook it until the liquid boils.
Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. The pork should be heated through and the cabbage tender.
Remove from heat and serve over white rice!
Tips & Tricks
Select a fresh cabbage. When choosing a cabbage, look for one that feels firm and heavy for its size. The outer leaves should be crisp, without yellowing or holes.
Chop the cabbage. Chop the cabbage into 2-inch squares or strips.
Braise the cabbage. How long you simmer will depend on how soft or crunchy you want your cabbage. My husband likes his cabbage on the softer side, so we let it simmer for about 15 minutes.
Add some extra veggies. For added flavor, toss in some chopped onion or carrots.
