Why you'll love this recipe

This homemade Cajun Seasoning blend is one of the best ways to season both meat and vegetables- especially shrimp! This recipe is one of my favorite Cajun blends- it has a kick but it's not too hot to handle. Unlike store-bought seasonings, the heat level can easily be customized to fit your own taste.

You'll never buy jarred cajun seasoning mix again once you see how simple it is to make it at home!

Ingredients

The best part about this recipe is that you probably already have these spices in your spice rack! Here is what you'll need:

  • Paprika
  • Salt
  • Garlic powder
  • Black pepper
  • Onion powder
  • Oregano
  • Cayenne
  • Thyme
Ingredients needed for homemade cajun seasoning shown on a plate: paprika, salt, garlic powder, black pepper, onion powder, oregano, cayenne, thyme.

Step-by-step instructions

Combine all of the spice ingredients in a small bowl or dish. Ta-da! The best homemade Cajun seasoning is now at your fingertips.

Don't you wish all recipes were this quick and easy?!

Tips & tricks

Adjust the heat. Super-spicy foods aren't for everyone- especially me! I enjoy foods with a kick, but not so spicy that they will bring me to tears. Luckily, this seasoning is both mild and easy to customize.

To adjust the heat in this recipe, use more or less cayenne pepper. Use more cayenne pepper if you want it spicier or use less if you want less heat.

If you don't want it spicy at all, leave the cayenne pepper out completely.

Recommended tools

  • Measuring Spoon Set. Easily measure seasonings and spices with my favorite measuring set!
  • Empty Spice Jars. Store your homemade seasoning in an airtight container to preserve its flavor and freshness.

Storage

This homemade seasoning can be stored in an airtight container for up to a year. I like keeping all of my homemade seasonings in mason jars for easy storage!

Whenever I make Cajun Seasoning or Taco Seasoning, I always double the recipe so I always have some on hand. It's so convenient for lazy days or when I just don't have the time!
