Why you'll love this recipe
If you've never drizzled Hot Honey over biscuits or fried chicken, you are missing out!
Some condiments are so much better when they're made from scratch- sometimes a heck of a lot cheaper too! This recipe is easy to make and chances are you already have all of the ingredients right in your pantry.
You'll need just three ingredients and about 10 minutes for this sweet and spicy hot honey drizzle. Once you've made the best homemade hot honey sauce, you'll be drizzling it on just about everything!
What is it?
Hot honey is honey that is infused with red pepper flakes. It's sweet with a hint of spice and can be used in so many ways!
What can hot honey be used for, you ask? Drizzle it on cornbread, toss it with roasted vegetables, or even use it as a dipping sauce for Baked Jalapeño Poppers. My personal favorite? Tossing it with fried chicken pieces to make Boneless Hot Honey Wings. YUM!!
Ingredients
You'll only need 3 ingredients to make this mouthwatering condiment! Here's what you will need:
- Honey
- Red pepper flakes
- Apple cider vinegar
Step-by-step instructions
In a small saucepan, add honey and red pepper flakes. Bring it to a simmer over medium heat, while frequently stirring. NOTE: Do not walk away while the honey is simmering! It can easily boil over and get really messy, really quick.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the apple cider vinegar. Use immediately or let it cool and transfer it to a glass jar.
Strain some or all of the chili flakes using a fine mesh strainer if you want a smoother sauce.
Tips & tricks
Don't walk away. While the honey is simmering, do not leave it unattended! It can quickly and easily boil over and it will create a huge mess.
Strain the honey. When the honey is done simmering, you can strain it through a fine mesh sieve to remove the pepper flakes.
Make this honey spicy. Let the chili flakes infuse with the honey longer or add a teaspoon or two of hot sauce.
Recommended tools
- Fine Mesh Sieve. Use this tool to strain out the red pepper flakes for smooth hot honey.
Storing and reheating
Store Hot Honey in a glass jar on the countertop for up to one month. If the honey crystallizes, place the jar in warm water or under warm running water until it's liquified.
Speaking of crystallized honey, this recipe is a great way to use up honey that has crystallized!
To reheat this recipe, pour the hot honey into a small saucepan and gently heat it while stirring frequently.
