What's a dump cake?
Dump cakes are only the easiest dessert you will ever make! You just dump your canned fruit, boxed cake mix, and butter into a baking dish, bake it, and that's it. This dessert is similar to a peach cobbler but it's so much easier to make!
Ingredients
This easy peach dump cake only requires four ingredients. Here's what you'll need:
- Canned sliced peaches in heavy syrup (the big cans)
- Cinnamon
- Yellow cake mix (unprepared)
- Butter
Step-by-step instructions
Begin this recipe by preheating your oven to 350 degrees.
Dump one can of peaches (syrup included) into a 9x13 baking dish. Drain the second can of peaches and add it to the baking dish.
Sprinkle the cinnamon over the peaches. I like to give it a good stir to make sure the cinnamon is evenly distributed.
Sprinkle the dry cake mix over the cinnamon and peaches. Next, place the butter slices evenly over the cake mix.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
This dump cake is best served warm with a drizzle of maple syrup or caramel sauce. A scoop of vanilla ice cream on top will take it to another level!
Substitutions
Don't have a box of yellow cake mix on hand? Don't even worry about it! You can easily substitute vanilla or white cake mix in this recipe without affecting the end results.
It seems like I always have a box of white cake mix in the pantry- but never yellow! I've made this several times using white cake mix and it turns out delicious every time!
Tips & tricks
Use a 9x13 baking dish. You'll want to use a big pan for this recipe so it bakes properly. Overcrowding the baking dish can result in a hard crust, instead of a cake-like texture.
Only drain one can of peaches. Having too much or not enough peach juice will result in a dry or mushy dump cake.
Recommended tools
- 9x13 Cake Pan. Bake and store your dump cake in this 9x13 pan. It even comes with a lid!
Storage
Store any leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to four days. You can also cover the baking dish with plastic wrap as soon as it has cooled.
